Produced in an exceedingly small series, the 3428 is one of the rarest and most sought after of all vintage Patek Philippe wristwatches. Produced for only a few years in the early 1960s it insignificantly influenced the popularity of wristwatches featuring enamel dials.
The 3428 replaced the celebrated 2526, the first automatic wristwatch produced in series by Patek Philippe. (Please see Lot 41 in this sale). With case size remaining the same with perfect proportions made by Baumgartner, Geneva's master case maker identified with key number 2, both references boast an attractive enamel dial made by Stern Frères. It differs only with the newer caliber 27-460, upgraded from the 12-600AT.
Production of the reference 3428 was extremely low. In fact, approximately 24 were ever produced in white gold whereby only 6 including the present watch have ever been identified. This presents an extremely rare opportunity for collectors of fine vintage Patek Philippe.
