Note du spécialiste
Claude Picasso has confirmed the authenticity of this work.
In 1950, Picasso conceived his Centaure de profil (A.R. 95) terracotta medallion, from which an edition of 40 terracotta examples would be produced by the Madoura pottery studio. This current piece is the empreinte for the edition, the unique cast utilised to create works to Picasso’s specified design. This medallion is offered alongside two photographs of his dentist M. Chataigner who instructed Picasso to make a few limited examples of jewellery from models by a process of cire-perdue. This jewellery, created in gold and silver, was given by Picasso to his friends and relations. Picasso later developed his interest in gold and silver in his collaboration with Francis Hugo.
