Tapering cylindrical, the sides with snakeskin decoration, engraved underneath with a coat-of-arms and dated '1663', marked underneath, further marked with a later French tax mark

The arms are those of Ribeauvillé. Two beakers engraved the same arms are recorded, one dated 1689 is the collection of the Museum of Strasbourg (exhibition catalogue Deux siécles d'orfévrerie á Strasbourg, Strasbourg, 2004, pp. 47-48, no. 7). The second, in the collection of the Hôtel de Ville de Ribeauvillé, is marked for Melchior Ehrhardt and dated 1700 (H. Haug, Inventaire des Collections Publiques Françaises L'Orfèverie de Strasbourg, Paris, 1978, no. 43.
