Conceived in 1955 in cement fondu, and cast in bronze in an edition of 6, plus 2 artist’s casts and 1 artist’s original.

with Chris Beetles Gallery, London, where purchased by the present owner.

Note du spécialiste

The model for the present work was Babette Hayes. When first exhibited in cement fondu at the Royal Academy in 1955, the critics declared Girl Asleep in a Chair to be an ‘enchantment in cement’ and ‘this year’s most notable exhibit’.
