Specialist note

The Datejust, launched in 1945 in time for Rolex’s 40th anniversary, is perhaps more synonymous with the company than any other model, it is one of the most enduring watches in their long history and certainly one that greatly contributed to the company’s fame and the watch market in general. Named “Datejust” because the date changed exactly at midnight and was therefore always “just”, the model has a “waterproof” Oyster case and centre seconds. The famous magnifier over the date nicknamed the “cyclops” was introduced in 1957.
Naturally the design of the Datejust has evolved over the years much to the delight of collectors who now find a rich variety of different dials, cases and references, each with their own unique attractions.
