Specialist note
Offered in excellent overall condition and with “full set”, the present pink gold reference 5059 is a model that is only found infrequently at auction and is becoming regarded as Patek Philippe classic.
Reference 5059, introduced in 1998, possesses an intriguing complication: a retrograde date display. The date is indicated by a hand progressing along a 240 degree arc located within the hour scale between 8 and 4 o'clock. Around midnight on the last day of each month, be it the 28th, 29th, 30th, or 31st, the hand automatically jumps back to 1. Reference 5059 was discontinued in 2006 and replaced by reference 5159.
