Specialist note

Although Bustelli is more commonly associated with his series of the Commedia dell'Arte, his preference for modeling in wood is especially notable in his series of Chinese figures, highlighting the manner in which surfaces are delicately rendered through a series of planes. A similar example in the white is illustrated by K. Hantschmann, A. Ziffer et al., ibid., 2004, p. 462, no. 121, on p. 245 and with the other related Chinese figures on p. 243.
