How to sell

Samuel Frederick Brocas (Dublin 1792-1847)
Wellington Bridge from Ashton Quay, with Essex Bridge and the Four Courts visible beyond
signed, inscribed and dated ‘S.F. BROCAS: DUBLIN 1817.’ (lower right)
pen and ink and watercolour
13 x 20¼ in. (33 x 51.5 cm.)

Specialist note

Known colloquially as the ‘Ha’penny Bridge’, Wellington Bridge was completed in 1816, a year before Brocas recorded this view. Essex Bridge, rebuilt and renamed Grattan Bridge in 1874, can be seen beyond, as can the Four Courts on Inn's Quay. The windmill in the background belonged to the Thomas Street Distillery. Both the Four Courts and Thomas Street Distillery can be seen from the opposing direction in lot 112.
