Note:
The recipient of this painting is Xu Jichuan (1900-1990), born in Suzhou. He was the secretary of Mei Lanfang’s Opera Troupe, and was a connoisseur of art. He was also an amateur Chinese opera composer, noted researcher in Mei-style opera, and opera critic.
