Note du spécialiste

Crakemarsh Hall, near Uttoxeter, was the seat of Sir Thomas Cotton Sheppard, Bt. (d.1848). Nikolaus Pevsner in the 1950s described Crakemarsh as a `compact two story stucco villa circa 1820, …. all very quiet and modest ; and a surprise to find that the house seems to have been built (or possibly re-built) around a sumptuous 17th century staircase’. The columns formed a screen in the dining-room and by 1968 when the estate was sold by Bagshaw and Knight Frank and Rutley, the scagliola had been covered with layers of white paint.
