Ernesto Tatafiore (b. 1943)

'I decided to study medicine and art became my territory of freedom. I have always found many points of contact between medicine and art: by his work, the artist tries to dilate time as much as possible, he wants to give himself the illusion of being able to attain immortality; the doctor, on the other hand, seeks to exceed the limits of the disease and to destroy the causes of death. In pursuing my medical studies in this way, I approached more and more the universe of psychiatry, which fascinates me. […] Over the years my work as an artist and that of psychoanalyst have become closer and closer, without engendering conflict' E. Tatafiore.
