Specialist note
On close inspection of the present timepiece, especially to the movement, it was apparent that the caliber is signed LeCoultre. Found under the hammer of the repeater, this was an important discovery in determining that Girard-Perregaux and Jaeger-LeCoultre worked in collaboration to produce this impressive timepiece. It was a common practice, at the time, that the so called' Etablissement' bought movements from movement makers. LeCoultre was the biggest movement maker at the time supplying Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet (who also made their own movements), Girard-Perregaux, Cartier and many others.
