This pink gold watch is an unusual example of Patek Philippe's production of complicated timepieces, distinguished by the absence of any other complication such as repeating and/or chronograph normally found in the firm's perpetual calendar watches. It is furthermore preserved in very good, original overall condition.
When Patek Philippe first started making perpetual calendar watches in 1868, the earliest examples were made with hunter cases in tune with the fashion of the era. By the 1870s on, the majority were cased as open face. The presently offered hunter case watch made in 1882 was most likely special order by or for ‘WG’, the name of the original owner currently lost in time. The dial is also enameled with the movement number on the dial, a tradition that started in the 1870s and indicated a piece of the highest caliber of Patek Philippe’s manufacture.
