A first to appear at auction, this reference 5170G in white gold with black dial is distinguished by its coveted and rare Tiffany & Co. signature.
Reference 5170 was launched in 2010 and offered a new look compared to its predecessor, the reference 5070. The tachymeter scale was replaced by a pulsation scale, inspired by earlier chronographs from the vintage era, and it housed the latest caliber 29-535 PS with Patek Philippe's new mark of excellence, the Patek Philippe seal.
When the 5170J was launched in 2010 in yellow gold, the only dial option was with a pulsometer and Roman numerals. With the 2011 Beyer limited edition, 50 examples were made with a tachometer dial to celebrate Beyer’s 250th anniversary. In 2013, a white gold 5170 was launched with white pulsometer dial. In 2015, the presently offered combination was offered with a black dial, applied Breguet numerals in white gold, and no pulsometer. A simple 60 minute track gives the watch a bold and clean appearance very reminiscent of a 1940s/1950s aesthetic. To the best of our knowledge the present watch has never before been offered in public.
