Specialist note
Hamano Shozui (Masayuki) (d. 1769 aged 74) was the pupil of Toshinaga, one of the three great makers of the Nara school, Toshinaga, Tsuchiya Yasuchika, and Sugiura Joi. He represents the flowering of the machibori decorative style, and is sometimes listed as the fourth great maker of Nara. Several generations of skilful pupils used his art names especially Miboku and Otsuryuken.
