THE FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION of this autobiographical roman à clef attributed to André de Mirabeau. Even his public biography is far from conventional: Mirabeau – brother of the revolutionary orator Honoré – spent two years in a Maltese prison, commanded a regiment in the American revolutionary war, and witnessed the Battle of Yorktown.
