Purchased in 1995 directly from the late Lord Bristol at Ickworth, Suffolk

Prospective purchasers are advised that several countries prohibit the importation of property containing materials from endangered species, including but not limited to coral, ivory and tortoiseshell. Accordingly, prospective purchasers should familiarize themselves with relevant customs regulations prior to bidding if they intend to import this lot into another country. Specified lots (sold and unsold) marked with a filled square not collected from Christie’s by 5.00 pm on the day of the sale will, at our option, be removed to Cadogan Tate. Christie’s will inform you if the lot has been sent offsite. Our removal and storage of the lot is subject to the terms and conditions of storage which can be found at Christies.com/storage. Specialist note

The furniture at Ickworth was almost exclusively supplied by the firm of Thomas Banting and William France.
Banting and France were Royal warrant-holders in the reigns of George III, George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria.
