Lot 1 A rare and recent trip to my storage facility in London made the hairs on the back of my hand stand on end.
James the all-knowing porter walked me up and down the aisles of the vast warehouse pointing to the left and right ,up and down repeating parrot-like the mantra "That's yours, that's yours, that's YOURS !"
I smiled the smile of a veteran antique dealer.. the warm inner glow replete with the knowledge that all the hours scouring auction catalogues, viewing the lots ,reading the condition reports, bidding, winning, arranging shipping ended here. This enormous hanger held and protected all my "babies", my passions and obsessions...I could and have travelled the world on wonderous cultural trips safe in the knowledge that all the treasures discovered, fought and bargained over would eventually end up here.
After walking what seemed like a marathon my smile waned, the warm inner glow turned to an icy knot in my stomach.
What planet had I been on for the past decade...the obsessive never-ending buying..and the rack upon rack piled high with my stock?
Something had to be done and soon...
So it is with relief tinged with some regret that I can now offer an insight into the world of an obsessive shopper, a collector who in order to facilitate his passions is obliged from time to time to divest himself of his beloved chattels.
I hope these objects give the same joy and pleasure to others as they have to me over the years.
