PROPERTY FROM A WEST COAST COLLECTION
This collection of Zhang Daqian lotus paintings were gifts from the artist to the aunt and uncle of the present owners in the West Coast. According to the owner’s recollection, Zhang Daqian was in an exultant mood during a dinner party on New Year’s Eve held at the artist’s home in Carmel, California in 1972. After dinner, he painted Red Lotus as a prize for the winner of a draw that all guests were invited to participate. Ink Lotus was a gift from the artist to the recipient, Zhengbang and his wife. Both paintings have remained in the family’s collection since.
