Specialist note

The sitter was the daughter of Louis de Blois, Seigneur of Trêlon. She became the second wife of Philippe de Croy (1526-1595), Duc d'Arschot, who was a knight of the Golden Fleece, in 1582. A detailed account of the de Croy family is given in de Courcelles, Histoire des Pairs de France, Vol. VIII, 1827.
