Specialist note

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with triple perpetual calendar, moon phases, enamel dial, engine-turned back and chased case band in 1868 and its subsequent sale on 12 July 1878.

This watch is amongst the earliest perpetual calendar watches made by Patek Philippe, still featuring the moon phases displayed through a half moon-shaped aperture as opposed to an individual subsidiary dial. Made in 1868, it is furthermore one of the complicated watches manufactured before Antoine de Patek's death in 1877.

Adrien Philippe's perpetual calendar mechanism was patented in 1889 but was already in use before, such watches however often featured experimental systems which were improved over the years.
