Specialist note

Howell and James was founded in 1819 as a firm of jewelers, silversmiths and retailers located at 9 Regent Street in London. They were noted for their variety and quality of stock, including items by designers and students of the South Kensington School, they exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park, the International Exhibition of 1862 and in 1867 at the International Exposition in Paris, then again in London in 1871 and 1872.
