Comprising: A white cloque silk jacket with black border trim; a black and white check silk pussy-bow blouse and a white silk low crowned hat by Philip Somerville; the black Tomasz Starzewski skirt of later date

Specialist note

Mrs. Thatcher wore the hat whilst giving a speech in 1988 attended by President and Mrs. Reagan on climate change. The blouse, was clearly a firm favourite, which Mrs Thatcher was photographed wearing on numerous occasions including with H.M. the Queen and five former Prime Ministers at number 10 Downing Street on 4 December 1985 for the 250th anniversary of the office of Prime Minister and on another occasion while hosting dinner for British fashion designers including Zandra Rhodes and Katherine Hamnett at number 10 Downing Street in 1983.
