Specialist note

The times we live in are marked by features like advances in science, developed economies, political democracy and a fast pace of life. It is up to the artist to ponder over how to discover and express the uniqueness of our times.

Man must have a long-term and permanent place to settle down. The length of settlement breeds familiarity, which in turn effects exquisiteness and artistic renditions. I used to live in China for some years, which is why I have been able to paint landscapes of Suzhou, Hangzhou, Guilin and Huangshan effortlessly. Later when I came to live in Southeast Asia, having felt the equatorial sunshine, appreciated the tropical flora, listened to the strains of Rasa Sayang and watched the gracefulness of the Legong dance, my wrist moved with spirit when I painted scenes of Malay kampungs and Balinese temple ceremonies.
