The rectangular box with rounded corners and an overhanging slightly domed cover with fitted inner tray, decorated in gold hiramaki-e and nashiji in Kodaiji style on a black ground, the top of the cover with scattered kiri mon [paulownia crests] amongst scrolling foliage continuing over the sides of the box, black lacquer interior, fundame rims, fitted with two gilt ring-fittings incised with kiri mon and silk cords
