Lot 162 COCKTAILS
“… the golden age of the cocktail shaker was the period between the two world wars of the last century.
It was during these years that novelist Alec Waugh, elder brother of Evelyn, claimed to have invented
the cocktail party, because he needed something to fill the time between tea and dinner. The Great War
had changed life forever and the young and the beautiful were in search of new methods of oblivion –
the alcoholic neologism of the cocktail suited them perfectly. Exotic to taste, and guaranteed to kick-start
even the dowdiest of parties, the cocktail was the beverage of choice of the Jazz Age”
Nicholas Foulkes
