AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY BLACK OPAL AND DIAMOND BROOCH/PENDANT
Set with an opal, within a circular-cut diamond surround and pendant loop, circa 1910, 3.5 cm, mounted in platinum, with detachable brooch and pendant fitting, in grey leather fitted case
Accompanied by Premium Report no. 80544 dated 15 June 2015 from the SSEF Swiss Gemmological Institute stating that the origin of the opal is Australia, with no indications of any treatment, and an Appendix letter stating that '... the highly attractive and intense play-of-colour, characterised by vivid spectral colour patches (...) in this opal evocates the delicate beauty of butterfly wings, thus making this a very exceptional gemstone'.
