Ce rare tirage d'époque fut offert par Richard Avedon à son assistant, Claude Bablin, avec lequel il avait l'habitude de travailler lorsqu'il se rendait à Paris. L'image fut prise en 1955, lors de la séance organisée au Cirque d'Hiver. On y retrouve Dovima portant un autre modèle de robe Christian Dior.
