Specialist note

Giuseppe Maria Terreni (Italian, 1739-1811) renowned for his frescoes that once adorned the chapels of his home town of Livorno, now lost due to the destruction related to World War II. Together with Giuseppe Castagnoli, he redecorated The Hall of the Niches of the Palazzo Pitti, Florence in the neoclassical style. His oeuvre as depicted in these views of the Bosphorous are believed to have been influenced by the work of Giuseppe Zocchi and Jacob Philipp Hackert.
