Fonseca Guimaraens 1967
In original wooden, six-bottle cases.
Tasting note: Reddish tawny at the core with a narrow amber rim. Beautifully complex, harmonious nose with a ripe figgy raisiny fruitiness overlaid with notes of exotic wood and a discreet aura of violets. The mature nose is deceptive and conceals a youthfulness and depth surprising in a wine now reaching the end of its fifth decade. The palate is exceptionally well balanced, with a muscularity and raciness more often associated with Fonseca’s sister house, Taylor’s. Nevertheless, the characteristic Fonseca opulence is there as well and the palate is crammed with rich complex flavour becoming increasingly multi-dimensional as it flows into the long finish. An exceptionally fine Vintage Port drinking beautifully now but which will reward another few years of patience.
