Circle of Henri Gascars (Paris c. 1635-1701 Rome)

Ruth and Theodora were two of the five daughters of Joseph Finch of Westonhanger, Kent, and his wife Judith, daughter of William Horton of Barkisland, Yorkshire. Portraits which appear to be en suite and by the same hand of the sitters’ sisters Elizabeth (who married Sir Richard Musgrave, 3rd Bt., M.P., of Hayton Castle, Cumbria) and Judith (married Edward Copley of Batley Hall, Yorkshire) are on loan from a private collection to Bolling Hall, Bradford, as well as a portrait of the remaining sister Caroline, by another hand. Caroline married Francis Lindley of Bolling Hall. Francis Lindley left Bolling Hall to his nephew Thomas Pigot, who left it to Captain Charles Wood, and the portraits of the five sisters passed by the same inheritance.
