Mark Francis (B. 1964)

The soft focus of the dots and snaking lines in Mark Francis’ Untitled belie the painter’s interest in what the unaided human eye has difficulty seeing. This is related to the enhanced vision made possible through technological developments, such as the piercing gaze of the electron microscope. It is from this microbial world, hidden from casual view, but teeming all around us, that artist-botanist Francis derives his imagery.
