Introduced in 1996, reference 5004 became throughout the years one of the most popular perpetual calendar split-seconds chronograph wristwatch made by Patek Philippe. With features deriving from reference 3970 and thus the mythical reference 2499, the present timepiece carries the essence of Patek Philippe's post-war designs as well as the knowledge gathered throughout the years by its master watchmakers. Due to the complexity of building a mechanism with a perpetual calendar, a split-seconds chronograph as well as a moon-phase display and allying it to a traditional sized case, the manufacture could only build around 12 pieces per year and stopped production after 15 short years. With all the characteristics of a modern classic, reference 5004 has a strong future as a collectible and will attract sophisticated collectors with an eye for understated complexity.
