A SPANISH GILTWOOD MIRROR
LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Of octagonal-form with stepped mirrored border and carved frame
63 ½ in. (161 cm.) high, 53 ½ in. (136 cm.) wide

Note du spécialiste

The octagonal form of this mirror reveals a strong Moorish cultural influence. Geometric concentric and interlaced design was popular throughout the Islamic world from the 12th Century onwards. With its spreading bands of plates, the form reveals the Moorish love of multiplicity and play of light.
