Specialist note

The distinctive trellis motif was employed by Georges Jacob in chairs supplied for Marie Antoinette's dairy at Rambouillet in 1787 and became a staple of the Jacob dynasty's oeuvre. Closely related chairs by Jacob Freres, employing this form of splat, were sold Christie's London, 9 December 2010, lot 237.
