Note du spécialiste
Enric Casanovas gained notice for his skill as a sculptor from an early age, winning a national award in recognition of his talent at only 16 years of age. He studied in various European cities before settling and exhibiting in Paris where he remained until 1913. Subsequently he established a studio in Barcelona and went on to found the Association of Sculptors of Catalonia. Large scale works such as his statue in the Plaza Catalonia, Barcelona, survive as well as smaller works in both private and public collections. Casanovas was a contemporary and friend of Picasso and was reported to have sent ‘carving tools’ to him, as well as advising on technical problems in the field of sculpture.
