George Washington Lambert (1873-1930)
Portrait of a courtier, probably a Privy Counsellor, seated three-quarter length, holding a scroll
signed and dated 'G.W. LAMBERT. / NOV. 1914' (lower right)
oil on canvas
30 ¼ x 38in. (76.8 x 96.6cm.)

Note du spécialiste

The sitter wears the insignia of a Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (the neck badge and breast star), and the Commemorative Medal for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee (1897). The uniform is probably that of a Privy Counsellor.
