with Julius Böhler, where acquired at the art fair, Cologne, 1981, as 'Gonzales Coques' by the grandfather of the present owner.

We are grateful to Dr. Francesco Petrucci, curator of Palazzo Chigi, Comune di Ariccia, for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs and for suggesting that this portrait could date to the artist's Roman period circa 1665-70.
