Cal. 1530 automatic lever movement, 17 jewels, black matte dial, luminous dot, baton and dagger numerals, luminous Mercedes hands, center seconds, tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case, rotating black bezel calibrated for 60 units, screw back, screw down crown, stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet, overall approximate length 7 inches, case, dial and movement signed

Specialist note

The reference 5508 is also known amongst collectors as a James Bond. The reference was in production from 1957 until circa 1961. The dial correctly displays the name Rolex and the words Oyster Perpetual and Submariner in gilt printing, while the depth rating of 100m=330ft is white. The bezel graduation is likewise correct for the model, with the first fifteen minutes indicated by individual strokes.
