Specialist note

Daisuke Tamano's works challenge our senses with images of absurdity. Contained within these fascinating scenes are profound reflections on social environment. Area 51 (Lot 226) is a collection of bizarre elements, and the characters share the same space with such lunacy. Yet, oblivious to their surroundings, they are indulged in their own inner worlds. The intuitive perspective employed here is reminiscent of ukiyo-e woodblock prints (Fig. 1). Area 51 is not listed on the maps. According to American folklore, it is a secret military base where extraterrestrial life forms are studied. Daisuke Tamano uses the symbolism of alien folklore in Western culture to compose a Surrealistic scene that echoes the composition which is akin to theater stage setting.
