Born in 1902, Mr. Yan Xiaotang was a native of Fujian. After graduation from the Law School of Fuzhou, he worked as Director of the Buddhist Association in Xiamen and was very devoted to Buddhism. Mr. Yan also worked in the news and education sectors, as well as in the hospitals. He later moved to Taiwan and became an industrialist. A lover of poetry, he excelled at calligraphy and had a special fondness of works by Pu Ru, whom he met at cultural and social occasions. Pu Ru also created a portrait for Mr. Yan.
