Painted with a portrait of a woman in profile to the left against a label inscribed ANNA within a circular medallion reserved against panels of scrolling foliage and with a label inscribed Pill Stomatice. (restored chip to upper rim, rim chipping, starcrack to interior)

Specialist note

An albarello of the same form painted in a very similar hand with a female portrait inscribed LIAN is illustrated by Silvia Glaser, Majolika, Die italienischen Fayencen im Germanischen Nationalmuseum Nürnberg, Nuremberg, 2000, p. 26, no. 23.

The label is named for pillole (pills) stomatico, a treatment for gastric disorders.
