Specialist note
"Piegan Blackfeet Indians and a band of fur trappers entangle in a fierce running fight in a mountain meadow. The Blackfeet were a powerful, warlike tribe and the fur traders were alert to any contact with them.
When the artist George Catlin was painting the portrait of Blackfoot Pe-toh-pee-kiss (Eagle Rib) in 1832, he bragged of eight scalps he had taken from trappers and traders, which adorned the clothing he wore while posing." - Andy Thomas
