Circular, the cover and base centring an oval cartouche on a gilt stippled ground, the cover depicting a townscape, the base depicting a hunter with hound in a landscape, within chased ropework borders, marked inside base and on flange, also with French import mark

Specialist note

The Zhilin family of Velikii Ustiug were renowned masters of niello work in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. It can be assumed that the workmaster of the present box was related to the Zhilin family.
