The scrolled foliate-carved top rail above a pierced shell and foliate carved splat above red velvet drop-in seat, the gadrooned apron above cabriole legs terminating in ball and claw feet, the drop-in seats later

Acquired in America before 1972 and thence by descent

Specialist note

A closely related set of four chairs with the distinctive tasselled splat was sold from the important collection of Fred Skull, Christie's, London, 23 April 1953 (£441 to Phillips of Hitchin).
