Specialist note

Ouyang Chun's creations, which originate from his own life experience, translate his personal per ception into artistic expression. Skilled in rendering his spirit as visual imagery, he draws out the stories his images encapsulate and, through his unique painterly vocabulary, presents them in his paintings. In Deep Ocean Creatures (Lot 104), the abstract background, rendered in an even application of blues, suggests that the deep sea is inaccessible to the sun rays. The shimmering light emitted by the fantastic creatures, which in the artist's imagination possess a powerful vitality, fills the ocean with colour. The cascading of multi-coloured parallel lines forms the obscure and effortless background, which brings into relief the details of the textured surface. By skillfully forming the works into a triptych, the work expands the artist's concept beyond the paintings themselves and allows the viewer's mind to swim freely in the ocean of the subconscious.
