SECOND HALF 20TH CENTURY
Each with a close-nailed circular seat, the bases carved with feathers in tones of red and green, the ends modelled as faces wearing Indian headdress, with further entwined leather and rope, facetted brass and turquoise beaded decoration

Specialist note

The Bal des Incas was held at the Tuileries Palace on February 11th, 1812, where Queen Hortense, Napoleon's stepdaughter, appeared dressed as a Peruvian priestess. A pair of chairs, probably commissioned for the ball, and on which the present lot is based, were sold Christie's/Pierre Berge & Associes, Paris, from the collection of Yves Saint Laurent for €200,000, 17 - 20 November 2009, lot 1034.
