William John Manners Tollemache, 9th Earl of Dysart, DL (1895-1935), by whom bequeathed with the house in 1935 to his second cousin,
Sir Lyonel Tollemache, 4th Bt. (1854-1952), and by descent to his son,
Sir Lyonel (Boy) Tollemache 5th Bt. (1886-1969), by whom gifted to Barbara Judd (1926-2013).

Specialist note

When Miss Judd was a young girl, her uncle Boy quizzed her about the subject of the present lot, as she had just learnt the story at Sunday School that day she answered correctly. He gifted the painting to her as a reward.
