Each circular, with part-fluted detachable cover, the fluted finial on leaf calyx, and with facetted wood handle, one engraved with the arms of the Royal House of Saxony, each marked underneath and on cover bezel

Specialist note

Marc Rosenberg notes that Gustav Friedrich Gericht registered two marks. His first mark GF above G in a trefoil was seen on three silver chafing dishes of 1802 in the Silberkammer Darmstadt. Works by Gericht in the collection of the Grand Dukes of Saxe-Altenburg were exhibited at the Decorative Arts Museum Leipzig, 1897, cat. no. 84 and 85 (M. Rosenberg, Der Goldschmiede Merkzeichen, Frankfurt, 1922, p. 327, no. 1021 and 1022).
