signed and dated 'HG ten Cate fec 1840' and with inscription 'HG ten Kate' (on the mount)

Specialist note

The same buildings seen from a little further away appear in a drawing dated 1837 now in the Stadsarchief, Amsterdam (inv. 10001/203). Interestingly the two drawings are in reverse one to another and show a few differences in the buildings.
